Gardner Energy Strategies is a versatile engineering firm dedicated to helping organizations achieve their sustainability goals through strategic planning and deep analysis of both the technical and financial aspects of your projects.
Sustainability Planning and Reporting
We know there’s a lot of platforms out there to make your environmental reporting easier, but the simple fact is that everyone’s data is different and reporting only gets easy if you have a robust system in place to take your data (e.g. monthly utility bills) directly from you source and make it acceptable to your reporting platform. That’s what we do best!
Building Energy Assessment
Whether it’s a high school, office building or residence, we can perform a first-order assessment of building energy use which includes a year-round '“heat map”, building energy signature analysis (regressing energy use vs weather patterns) and specific information about where the energy is beingconsumed.
Building on 10 years experience in energy efficiency of industrial processes, we can perform a first order scoping audit of your manufacturing or processing facility that will include analysis of annual energy usage, regression to weather, plant-wide energy balance and specific recommendations complete with estimated savings and payback.

Community and Organizational Resilience: Microgrids
How would your organization deal with a prolonged power outage? The increasing frequency of severe weather events has revealed the vulnerability of our energy infrastructure. A proven approach to address this challenge is through the development of a microgrid, most often comprising solar photovoltaic and battery storage. Let us perform the technical and economic feasibility study to show how a microgrid would improve your resilience and save money in the long term.
Renewable Energy Integration and Evaluation
“If I install solar panels, how much money will I save?” Great question, and one that’s particularly difficult to answer in the face of rapidly evolving utility pricing structures. We can look at your hourly electricity consumption, model a proposed PV system and produce a life cycle discounted cash flow that allows you to ‘try on’ various electricity provider rate structures to find the solution that is best for your organization.
Dr. Gardner spent 34 years as a professor of mechanical engineering and 24 years volunteering with ABET, the agency that accredits engineering programs. As a former commissioner on the Engineering Accreditation Commission, he is uniquely qualified to help guide programs through the outcomes-based accreditation cycle in your college’s future.
Dr. Gardner also has extensive experience in developing and delivering engineering/technical material, both face-to-face and on-line. Let us work with you to develop your in-house training programs.
